Rain Sensors
Have you ever driven by your neighbor’s home on a rainy day, only to realize that their sprinkler system is still on? Or perhaps it was you, and you ended up kicking yourself as you imagined what next month’s water bill will look like.
Rain sensors, which are required by state law and most municipalities, can sense when it’s raining and the amount of rainwater that hits the ground. If enough rainwater hits the ground, the sensor communicates with your sprinkler system to ensure it doesn’t run.

Advantages of Rain Sensors
- Conservation of water: Water usage will naturally go down as rain sensors detect high amounts of rain water.
- Save money on fertilizer: If you overwater your plants, the nutrients can easily be washed away into the drainage system. Less nutrients equals more fertilizer.
- Increase your irrigation system’s lifespan: When you use a rain sensor, your lawn irrigation system is naturally not in operation as often, increasing its lifespan.
- Prevent wasteful runoff: Wasteful runoff including herbicides, fertilizers, pesticides and pet waste can get mixed into excess drainage due to overwatering.
